New Street Lights

Posted in: Boulevard Park
Hi ... I'd like to know what people think about the new (4 block)
Street Light Pilot Program ?
Should we push for more of these lights?
Personally, after afew (nights) of getting used to the change, we began to see real benefits for "I" Street.
But,I do wish they would clean off those spray paint markings on the sidewalks...
Anyone seen other problems with them ?

New Street Lights

The foot traffic in the wee hours where the lighting has been installed, has been reduced considerably.

Opportunistic criminals we used to see lurking on various corners and alley ways, have gone elsewhere to hunt. I believe you'll see this born out in reduced property crimes, prowlers and assaults. Good vision eguals good witnesses. Walk a couple blocks north and west... you'll find find plenty of night crawlers.

16th to 21st - I to C would help police and the neighborhoods.

Street Lights

Paul you must be kidding! The street lights have been a great addition to the Neighborhood. As far as the crime well the crooks are more cautious then they were before do to less places to hide. But as far as the paint is concerned that will fade over the course of time. I beleive that they should light up the entire midtown and downtown area. It would be a great addition and give the residents a safe feeling at night.

It's getting dark again

I know that no one seems to read these. Just look at the dates. But I would like to say that now that winter is again here, it sure is dark. I see how nice those lights look on I street and on one side of H street, I wish we had them on our street. I can't believe that people felt that $ 10 a month was to much of a hardship? How much does one stolen radio from your car cost? How about having an apartment empty for a month because people don't feel safe.

Maybe people are so short sighted because it is so dark they can't see far.

It just is interesting that the lights were put in as a demonstration on blocks with a lot of absentee landlords who refused to pay in the first place. I wish I could have paid to have them come across the street to put on my block too.
