“to protect, and to preserve”

Feb 04, 2002

Thanks to Frankie Taylor, who recently recruited several new Watch Patrol Volunteers, we now have 15 teams. Frankie was recently asked to help improve the coordination of Patrol scheduling and has done a marvelous job. As you may already know, each team has the responsibility of the Patrol for a one week shift. This aspect of our Patrol is unique (others operate on a daily shift change). We have had great success operating the Patrol in this manner, as it is asked that each team patrol every day as possible, and make up to three patrols per day, in all three high risk time blocks of each day.
A new tool, presented and considered at our last meeting, is our Courtesy Notice. These may be left at a residence or on a vehicle, or other wise delivered to give our neighbors an opportunity to address a particular violation before it would be reported to the City or the Police. Opinions at the meeting ranged from not giving the notice at all, to an advanced distribution of a sample of the Courtesy Notice. The prototype was to be reworked and looked at again, at the next meeting.
It is hoped that knowing that the Patrol will be noticing and acting upon certain violations will negate the need for many of the Courtesy Notices.
