Molly, I have been on Greenwood for 2 years but I am a new user here.  Since you are not on the board, are you an office holder of some type since you are keeping us informed?  Also, what is the plan to treat the pond?  It is still a swamp full of scum.  Also what is policy of stocking the pond with fish?

Hi Neighbor,

No, I'm not on the board, I just volunteered last year to be on the website committee.  My husband, Brian, is on the board and therefore I'm kept abreast of most of what's going on in Fleetwood through him.  Unfortunately, the pond scum has been an ongoing issue, especially on the back pond.  The new fountain should help a lot because it is much more substantial and allows for better aeration.  Also, a motion was approved just today by the board to stock the pond with Tilapia, a fish known to eat pond scum.  In past years this has been very successful in curtailing the pond scum problem.

OK cool.  So you are the First Lady of Fleetwood then.  I emailed your husband about this same issue.  A lot of this stuff could be scooped out from the shore with a pool net.  If the HOA will buy one, I'll be glad to volunteer to skim the water around the edges.  I think a few catfish & bass would be nice if the board would consider.

You will have contact the board directly about such purchases.  When Southeastern Pond installed the fountain last week they said they saw bass in there.

The new fountain looks great, especially at night with the lights on. I have a few photos of the guys in the boat working to install it. I'll see if there is a place here where I can post a couple. Since the fountain has been installed, the scum that was building up has lessened. Great job!

Will the tilapia fish get as big as the giant carp I used to see in the back pond? There were several I used to see regularly that were almost 3 feet long! I could see them swimming from my deck.
