Social Events for February

Feb 19, 2000

As we get into this new year (whether you think that it really is a new century or not), we want to reinforce the idea that for most of us, at least 50% of the ?“riding experience?” is tied up with the friendship and camaraderie associated with our interest in motorcycles. Since we really believe this, we are working hard to enhance our members?’ opportunities for riding relationships to grow and prosper. What better way is there to do this than to schedule a variety of get-togethers that will offer the chance for us to meet and know each other better? To that end, then, here are the ?“social?” offerings for the month of February.

We will have a ride on Saturday, February 5th, leaving from Giovanni?’s at 9:30, which will lead (eventually) to The Old Telephone Company in the heart of downtown Ramona, right on Main Street (Highway 67), at 12:30 p.m. or so. This continues to be a favorite lunch stop for the club, offering homemade food at reasonable prices. So, come to Giovanni?’s and join the ride, or meet us in Ramona.

For Valentine?’s Day, we have scheduled an early ride followed by brunch at Stoneridge Country Club in Poway on Sunday, February 13th. (Yes, yes, Valentine?’s Day is February 14th.) Brunch is $16 plus tax/tip per person, and the food will be very much like that of our December party, that is to say, simply wonderful! We?’ll leave from Giovanni?’s at 9:15 a.m. for a ride, or meet us at Stoneridge at noon. Be sure to bring your sweetheart! (Gentlemen take note: This is a very nice place, and you're sure to score big time in the Romance Sweepstakes for being a sensitive and caring fellow!)

For all you north county residents who have to ride for an hour to attend most club functions, we have also planned an event up your way. Neimans on Coast Highway at Carlsbad Village Drive (in Carlsbad) will be the location of our Pub Nite on February 17th. Be there at 6:00 p.m., the food is great. This is also a good chance for those of you who don't go north of Highland Valley Road to see some new territory!

On February 26th we have a coffeehouse gathering at Caf?© 976, located at 976 Felspar, corner of Cass, in Pacific Beach, beginning at 5:00 p.m. Felspar is one block north of and runs parallel to Garnet Avenue. While the food is merely fine, the setting is really great. The cafe is an old house with a big porch and loads of flowers. Parking is a bit tough in this area, so if you arrive early, try to park in such a way as to save room for other bikes.

Looking ahead to March, the Membership Meeting on the 21st at Giovanni?’s will feature free pizza and soft drinks! Can you believe that? There will also be a feature program, the details of which will be provided next month, and door prizes as well. Mark your calendar!

A final note. It is winter. Who can predict the weather months (days) in advance? If our scheduled ride days dawn cold, wet, nasty, we probably won?’t find too many souls willing to brave the weather on bikes. It just isn?’t that much fun, is it? (Do you really believe the guy who says, ?“Ah, heck, I don?’t mind the weather, it?’s just that I don?’t want to get my bike dirty!?”?) So, since Mother Nature is almost always very good to us in this corner of the country, we do yield to her when she seems to be in one of her moods!
