In Your Neighborhood - August 2011

August 23 - Approximately 40 neighborhood residents gathered at Kenwood Elementary for the monthly meeting.

President Ken Williams welcomed those present and summerized the recent picnic as a success.  To improved matters and avoid the furnace-like heat of summer, the 2012 picnic will be moved back to June.  Details to follow.  While the proceedings were underway, those attending were treated to picnic slides that played continually throughout the evening.

Treasurer Ray Crider presented the financial report.  All event related expenses are paid and up to date.  Crider reminded the group the next major event is the Christmas party and that ANA relies on donations and not dues "before circulating the bucket".

Ken McFarland recounted the July 6 neighborhood cleanup that was assisted by 37 youth from the National Nazarene Conference held in Louisvile that weekend.  Ken, youth members and ANA committee members criss crossed Auburndale, worked on school ground cleanup and later had a lunch/cook out on the Kenwood School grounds with Nazarene volunteers and adult leaders. 

McFarland commended Kenwood Principal Jill Handley for her continued support of ANA and this project.

LMPD Officer Ken Baker presented area crime statistics and commended ANA membership for its support at presence at the 3rd Division National Night Out Crime Prevention Event.

ANA representative Tony Spratt provided a detailed summary of MSD projects within the area.  Spratt is the designated representative for Public Works, MSD and LMPD related issues.

State Representative Mike Nemes was available to answer questions and provide updates regarding General Assembly activities.

Councilman David Yates continues to be involved in answering neighborhood need, most recently with the removal of graffiti.  Yates was asked to investigated the possibility of placing "No soliciting" signs within the neighborhood.  He will report back.

School Board member Linda Duncan reported that JCPS opening day was incident free as compared to the year prior.  Duncan urged those wanting to know more about the statistical profile of the district, to visit the JCPS website.

Ken Williams thanked those who brought donations to Officers deployed overseas and reminded those who have not yet donated to bring items the 3rd Division or his house.
