South Broadway NEPA Update

May 14, 2006

by Karen Cuthbertson

The Cherokee redevelopment of the old Gates factory will produce a huge increase in the number of cars and people coming and going from that site. To address the transportation impact to S. Broadway from about Center Ave south to Evans and east/west along W. Mississippi, the City is using the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) process for identifying and evaluating alternatives.

In June 2005, Karen joined the public input Consensus Committee (CC), which is comprised of area neighborhood groups, business and property owners, developers, RTD, City agencies, and the involved regulatory agencies.

Over 100 suggestions were generated and have been packaged into some NEPA-required alternatives and seven action alternatives.

The next step is to develop a combination of suggestions that are feasible from an engineering perspective and are palatable to the impacted stakeholders. For more information, visit www.denvergov.org/ Broadway NEPA.
