Community Emergency Responce Team

Is your neighborhood ready for a disaster?
Can your neighborhood be self-sufficient for at least
Who will fight fires, help the injured, and rescue trapped neighborhood
if professional rescuers are not available?

By definition, a disaster is an occurrence that overwhelms first responders and other
government service providers. In the event of a significant disaster, public services cannot be
delivered everywhere help is needed. Ordinary citizens can help if they know what to do. Clark
County Fire District 6 and Vancouver Fire Department are offering a program to train
individuals as members of our local Citizen Emergency Response Team (CERT). These
volunteers work together to provide disaster relief at the neighborhood level.
CERT is a 20 hour curriculum consisting of the following:
◊ Disaster Preparation/Terrorism
◊ Disaster Fire Suppression
◊ Disaster Medical Operations, Part I & II
◊ Light Search and Rescue Operations
◊ Disaster Psychology/Team Organization
◊ Disaster Exercise
The cost of the training is $30. The recommendation is that citizens attend as a
neighborhood team of three or more persons to maximize their effectiveness in a real
disaster.
Two different training classes will be offered in order to accommodate different
schedules—students may mix Thursday and Saturdays in order to attend all the training:
