A Millennium Move

Feb 01, 2000

As you may have heard, the Bowling Green Relay for Life is making a Millenium Move this year. The ACS staff and Relay committee have decided to move the Relay site to Bowling Green City Park.
There were several reasons for this change. First, the BG Relay is in its sixth year, making it one of the oldest sites in this area. Since it has always been at the same location, moving it to the park should jump-start the event, giving it new life!

Also, by having the Relay outdoors, it will become visible to the entire community, creating the possibility for new teams, more survivors, and better media coverage. The committee is planning a chicken BBQ for dinner so that
people who?’ve never ?“Relayed?” before will come to eat, then stay for the festivities!

Finally, Dr. Bob Callecod, Director of Parks & Recreation, has agreed to donate the facility?—shelters and all?—for the entire 13 hours. His generosity will enable us to keep our expenses to a minimum, allowing more of the money raised to be used in the fight against cancer. The park has several benefits built into its facility. First, the shelters will provide space for teams to gather and eat throughout the night. We also will have access to the enclosed Scout Building which will provide space for games and activities. Another benefit is that the luminaries will line the paved path encircling the park. This way, the walkers can enjoy them as they light the way the whole night through. Callecod will also allow us to stake tents wherever needed; therefore, the atmosphere will be one of camping fun! Teams can really let their creativity run wild with campsite themes (see ideas below).
We look forward to seeing you there as we celebrate Y2K at the Relay!
