Anyone have any suggestions for dealing with dumpster divers?  Are the police responsive to this issue?  There is a person who dives behind a dumpster every morning on my street at 5:30 am!  It is noisy and messy.  I'm hesitant to contact the police about this seemingly trivial issue but it is quite a  nuisance.  I have also thought about contacting the property owner (a local business on 4th) and asking them to get a dumpster that closes and locks!  Any ideas?

Yes, call the LB Police non-emergency phone number 562.435.6711 or 911.  Get a report number so you can call back and get information on what happened.  Any time you call the Police, get the report number.  This ensures that a report IS taken and Police action must be taken.

dumpster "digging" and "tagging" are a constant problem and they all need to be reported.

How about a neighborhood mandate that all bins must have locks?  The city manages the trash so I don't see why this couldn't be done.  We can report to the police all we want but until we take preemptive measures it is going to keep happening.  Just by having everyone recycle themselves would probably reduce the amount of divers.

I would trade the nuisance of the noise and neighborhood outsiders roaming the alleys for nuisance of having to use a key to throw trash away.  I'm sure others would agree.

While were add it, lets clean up the alleys.  Add lights and perhaps lay down some sort of stone or brick instead of asphalt to beautify them.
