112th Precinct Community Council

Dear Neighbor by Heidi Harrison Chain

Jan 13, 2007

My best wishes to you for a safe, happy and healthy 2007. I hope that you will participate with our precinct council during 2007. As we start a new year, I want to congratulate Chief Tuller, Captain Napolitano and the members of the 112th precinct on their successful service to our community in reducing crime in 2006-See COMPSTAT numbers herein. I also want to thank them for helping with our programs for you. Captain Napolitano and I worked together to prepare our 2007 safety calendar. Pick up your calendar at our meeting.
We are encouraging your participation in the 112th community council ?“vial of life?” program. This program enables emergency responders who respond to a house or apartment to have the medical and personal information about an individual who is unable to provide this information to them. The council will provide you with magnets. The magnet should be placed on the refrigerator or on the phone in your kitchen. The information sheets about you are to be completed and kept inside your refrigerator in a plastic bag on the left side of the refrigerator. We also recommend that you make a copy of your information and include it in your ?“go bag?” in the event of an emergency.
Our December meeting was a great success. Together with HSBC, we awarded the prizes to the winners of our 9th annual antidrug essay contest: Loraine O?’Connell, (Forest Hills High School), Julie Byrnes (JHS 157), Neha Anil Mehta (PS 144) and May Yacer (PS 144). I want to thank everyone in the community who helps with our council so that together we can better our community. We were joined at our holiday party by the Hon. Anthony Weiner, the Hon. Toby Stavisky, the Hon. Melinda Katz and the Hon. Karen Koslowitz. We appreciate their support and assistance for our programs. Together we can make a difference.
Our precinct council welcomes our new community affairs officers -Gigi Redzematovic and Jimmy Smith. Our community is very lucky that they both have been given this assignment. As most of you know, Gigi and Jimmy have already been helping us in the community. We look forward to continuing to work with them. During our holiday party we wished David Valovage our best on his retirement and thanked him for his efforts. We thanked Timothy Everoski for his efforts in community affairs and congratulated him on his promotion.
As community members, we can help each other. If your home, apartment building or store has video equipment, please be sure that it is working. The tapes are very useful. If you see someone in the area that seems to be suspicious - call 911. The precinct still has the block watcher program. We had some home invasions in the area and we must work together. If you see something ?–please call and let us know.
