Detective Eugene Canapi is a 20-year veteran of the New York City Police Department. He was appointed in August of 1993 and began his career in the Midtown North (18th) Precinct. While at Midtown North Precinct, Detective Canapi served in the Manhattan South World Cup Task Force, the Manhattan South Grand Larceny Task Force, and as the Precinct's Community Policing Coordinator. He transferred to the NYPD Internal Affairs Bureau in 1996 and was assigned to the Internal Initiatives Unit in the Corruption Prevention Division and promoted to Detective in February 1998. Detective Canapi transferred to the Deputy Commissioner of Public Information as a "Media Liaison" in 2001, where he dealt with the numerous media and press organizations around the world. Detective Canapi transferred to the Deputy Commissioner of Community Affairs in the March of 2002, as the Asian Liaison in the Special Outreach Unit. In December of 2003 Detective Canapi transferred to the Police Academy as the Protocol Visit Liaison Officer. He was promoted to 2nd Grade Detective in December of 2004 and was transferred to the Police Commissioner’s Liaison Unit in January 2005. In March 2009, Detective Canapi was assigned to the 48 Precinct in the Bronx. In November 2011, Detective Canapi is currently assigned to the Inteligence Division in the Threat Assessment and Protection Unit in which he is part of the NYC Comptrollers Security Detail.  Detective Canapi is a member of the NYPD Asian Jade Society since 1993. He was appointed as the Corresponding Secretary in 1995, elected as the First Vice President in 2000, assumed the position of president in 2002, elected to President in 2003 and held the position until 2006. He holds the title of President Emeritus. He is involved with the Asian Jade scholarship committee and in 2012 he is currently the President of the Committee of Police Societies, having been 1st Vice President since 2006 and is Corresponding Secretary for the NYPD Holy Name Society, Manhattan Bronx and Staten Island. Detective Canapi is fully engaged in assisting all the various fraternal, ethnic and religious organizations. Detective Canapi enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1984 where he was a member of the 92nd Bomb Wing, Strategic Air Command, Fairchild Air Force Base, Spokane Washington and then joined the United States Naval Reserve in 1998 and served as a Petty Officer 1st Class Intelligence Specialist, assigned to the Office of Naval Intelligence, Naval Air Station Willowgrove, Pennsylvania.
