Background

I first lived in Madison Park back in 1987, on Tyvola Road, right about the time the Charlotte Hornets started playing in the (then) new Coliseum. I found it to be a very convenient location - close to uptown, the interstate, shopping, and work. I was convinced, after surviving a long night with Hurricane Hugo, that these houses were very solid, and that this was a great neighborhood, even after 28 days with no power! I moved away for a number of years, and when I decided to sell my townhome in South Charlotte, I knew this was the neighborhood I wanted to buy in!

The Money Pit?

When we started looking in Madison Park, every house we found was already under contract - a trend that has continued for others who are looking in the neighborhood today! We found our house on Farmbrook, called the realtor and found out it was still on the market. So we set up the appointment to look at the property, walked in, stayed 2 minutes, and walked away. It just needed too much updating, so we decided it would be best to keep looking. Several weeks later, after not finding anything else, we drove by and the house was still on the market. We called the realtor, gave it another look, and again, walked away - it was just more than either of us wanted to tackle. We looked another week or two, but something kept making us drive past the Farmbrook house - we kept having the 'what if we did this, and then did this' conversation. After several days of 'what ifs', we decided to make an offer, which was accepted. That was in February of 2001.

Six years later, there's still a lot to be done - but we've re-landscaped - front, back and side yards, waterproofed the crawlspace, put in all new HVAC, new paint inside, refinished the hardwoods, facelifted two of the three bathrooms, and are currently in the process of planning a kitchen remodel.

The neighborhood continues to improve - people are buying and remodeling; property values continue to climb, and we couldn't have better neighbors - across the street, James & Randy have two adorable kids, as do Ken & Jenny, and we couldn't make it without Lisa Roberts to watch the kitties for us when we're out of town. Ric and his family are the best, too!!

It's a great place to live - well-built homes, close to everything, and LOTS of great people.

MPHOA

Brian and I have been attending the association meetings for about three years now, and I feel very honored to have been asked to serve on the board. Marty, Dee, Debra, Ted and everyone else on the board - current and former - have been instrumental in keeping the neighborhood informed, and attendance at the meetings seems to increase each month. Please join us on the 2nd Monday of each month - find out what's going on in the neighborhood, and meet your neighbors! You won't find a better neighborhood in Charlotte, or a board more committed to maintaining a wonderful, safe, attractive and desirable neighborhood!
