Community Park - We need Your Help

Hi friends and neighbors...

About six years ago W.E. C.A.R.E. submitted a request for a Park in our Community.

Many of you signed the original petition submitted to the County.

We're still trying but we could use your help.

The Park was requested in order to give the children a constructive, healthy and fun place to play.  A safe place where parents and children can gather and foster a closer sense of community, which in turn deters crime.   About three years ago, funding was made available and about two years ago the Property was purchased in a good central location of the community.  The home was removed and the land was cleared....

Questions were brought up at the last Community Meeting about the community Park.  Some of you may remember the representative from the Parks Department who came out to the community in January, 2009.  Mr. Granowitz presented us with the layout of the park, the type of playground equipment we could expect, answered questions from the audience and gave an approximate completion date of around the end of 2009.

In November of 2009, we received an email stating that the Park was being put on hold due to maintenance cost issues.  Sharon contacted Parks for clarification and was told it would cost approximately $ 17,000.00 per year to maintain.   To the best of our knowledge an appropriation of $ 350,000.00 was made for the Park.  The approximate purchase cost of the Property was               $ 149,000.00.   As far as we know, at this time the remaining funds are still available.  Due to the economy, it is our concern that the remaining funds will be disbursed to other projects in other communities.

We have recently written a friendly letter to Commissioner, Burt Aaronson requesting his assistance.  We offered our assistance with the maintenance of the Park.  We also copied the Office of Community Revitalization (OCR).  The OCR has been very helpful to our community and instrumental in getting the Park as far as it has gotten.  It is our hope that Mr.  Aaronson, will write a letter on the Communities behalf in favor of the Park.

Here is where you can help...Contacting Mr. Aaronson with a positive, favorable letter or phone call requesting his assistance, will go a long way.  Let them see that the Community has pulled together and that this Park is important to us and our Children.

Mr.  Aaronson's contact information is as follows;

Mr.  Burt Aaronson, Commissioner

301 N Olive Ave.  Suite 1201  West Palm Beach, Fl.  33401

561.355.2205  or  877.930.2205

I have also included his contact information in the "Community Contact"  section of this website.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the W.E. C.A.R.E office, leave a message and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

Thank you....The W.E. C.A.R.E Committee
