WASHINGTON PARK CIVIC ASSOCIATION INC
P O Box 1233
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33311

July 14, 2005

The meeting opened at 7:10 PM with prayer by Ms. Spence-Brown. The minutes were approved by Y. Sumlin and seconded by M. Glee. We welcomed three new members, Mr. Misina Mendel on NW 7th CT, Mr. Mike McMillion from NW 9th ST, and Mr. Rainford to be on NW 8th RD.

Joy from code enforcement advised our new resident Mr. Mendel that he can?’t have ficus trees in front of the house. Ms. Smith advised us that some of the neighbors are home bound and unable to get to the meetings, so they are unaware of the new codes. Ms. Sumlin will request copies of our code enforcement rules from Ted Vitale to distribute to our new residents. Mr. McCray wants to know why we can have oak trees but not ficus trees. Ms. Sumlin explained the difference to him.

Neighborhood Enhancement: Ms. Sumlin explained to the new members what their duties are. She advised residents they are unable to have fences across the front of their property unless it is decorative, rolling, and cannot exceed four feet in height. If residents see an ice cream truck in the neighborhood, they should call (954) 765-4321. Greg Murphy from the Sheriff?’s Office advised us of the meeting at the African-American Research Library and Cultural Center regarding sexual predators and sexual offenders. Lt. Fleming was not in attendance.

Ms. Sumlin advised residents that have code violations that they need to take care of the violations within the allotted time that was given.

There was a large sinkhole on NW 30th AVE and NW 9th PL. There is a cover missing on 2897 NW 9th ST from the storm drain. Mr. Rainford advised he is building a house on NW 8th RD and wants a circular driveway but there is a planter in the way. His builder was advised to attend the next code meeting and bring all of his plans. Mr. McMillion addressed his concerns with cracks in his driveway.

Ms. Giles presented her survey information to the residents and explained what the survey is for. She asked for volunteers to help distribute the surveys.

$998.00 was the balance in the treasury. We spent $48.00 on a mailbox. Mr. Smith made a motion to withdraw $200.00 from the treasury to buy back to school supplies for the kids at the park. The motion was seconded by Winslow Gaskin. There was a back to school gathering on July 28, 2005.

We?’ve been approved for a grant in the total of $92,463.00. Meeting adjourned at 9:10 PM.
