  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor
I bought property in Roosevelt to renovate. I have been robbed twice, had my truck stolen, & I hear gunshots at least once a week. I have only owned since april 2006. I know where the drug houses are,who is supplying the drugs, who are the thiefs in the neighborhood. I do not hear the neighbors calling the police, everyone seems to keep quiet. I don't get it. Why do these people put up with this? I am almost ready to give up.
Crime - Where Did You Buy?

You are describing the Roosevelt Historic District of 20 years ago when I first bought my house in the area. I used to call the cops everytime I heard shots, near or far. Everyone should. But the truth is, things have changed tremendously in Roosevelt, north of Roosevelt St. To the south of Roosevelt, things have also changed drastically, but it is still a little rough around the edges. North of the Deck Park my wife and I feel very comfortable walking around at all hours of the night without any concern. We walk from our house on Willetta Street all the way downtown to the theaters at the Arizona Center at night, watch a movie, and walk all the way back without incident. While I was burglarized about ten years ago, things are very quiet now. You must be south of Roosevelt Street. I went out into the alley last night at 4:00 a.m. to empty the garbage. All quiet, not a sound except for my footsteps in the gravel.
Crime

Hi Bruce,
I bought on Roosevelt st. I am between 12th & 13th. There are apartments on the block that get alot of traffic, usually in the back alley. Last week someone was fighting in the alley & that's when I heard more gun shots & someone yelling. You are right about things getting quieter, I have only owned since last year and I can already see it getting better. I guess I should hang on and wait, but, it was very depressing for awhile after getting alot stolen. I have a watchdog now too! :)
Thanks for the words of encouragement.
