WONDERFUL NEWS!

The vacant lots on Cobblewood Lane North that have long been an overgrown eyesore have been deeded to the City of Jacksonville.
Trisha Gercken worked with Council Member Lynette Self and the owners of the property, Beazer Homes, in an effort to have the lots deeded to the City. Many thanks to Beazer Homes and our Council Member for their joint efforts to accomplish this transaction.
The idea for a neighborhood park is still a possibility, but until then, we can enjoy clean lots maintained on a regular basis by the city.

About a month ago we all received a letter from Lynette Self informing us of a meeting to discuss the property again. With her was a developer who showed an interest in developing 8 more houses on this property. The majority of our neighborhood who attended this meeting were opposed to this happening.

Since that meeting, our association held a meeting to discuss this among ourselves. All those who attended were in favor of keeping this property as a park, there were no opposing views at the meeting. Feeling that developing this property would only congest our neighborhood and heighten the parking and speeding problems we already have in the neighborhood. Adding that many units would add about 16 vehicles to the neighborhood.

Also, those in attendance would like to see this property remain as a passive park, possibly by adding some landscaping.

Contact was made with our councilman, Lake Ray?’s office. Mr. Ray has looked over the minutes to the meeting held with Lynette Self and has heard views from our association along with a few other neighbors a few who have different opinions that that of the association. At this time, the property is in the process of being zoned to the proper zoning of ROS being changed from PUB. Also, a conference was held with the councilman?’s office, Parks and Recreation Office (who currently owns the property) and association representative. Currently Parks and Recreation department is having their office to put together plans for a landscaped area, also considering putting up a fence with entrances around the property.

This topic will again be discussed at our next meeting to be held on March 8, 2006 at 3057 Cobblewood Ln E at 7:00p.m.

You can still find this topic on our Website (http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/jacksonville/vc/) along with the newest updates regarding this property
