THAN, Tampa Homeowners, An Association of Neighborhoods

All homeowners associations need to pressure our eelected officials to STOP door to door solicitors. At least 3 times a month I have solicitors come around for petition drives, magazine sales, household cleaner sales, lawn care, maid services etc...

The city of Tampa and Hillsborough County must allow tax paying homeowners the ability to regulate and stop these people from intruding on our private property. I find door to door sales people and tax exempt organization petition gatherers to be intrusive, ill informed, impolite and in some instances potentially dangerous to residents.

The FCAN (national organization for any and all left wing causes) signature solicitors came by my Virginia Park home yesterday. The gentleman actually had an amazingly overwhelming offensive body order. His demeanor was equally offensive once I told him I do NOT respond in anyway to door to door solicitors. I am starting to question where FCXAN is gathering solicitors. Based on the appearence of both men on my street I think they could be paying homeless people to gather signatures.

ALL homeowners need to turn all door to door solicitors away. Once this occurs we can try to control who is in our neighborhoods. I do NOT appreciate the thought of unwashed, unkept, intruders being on my personal property for their reasons.

Please pressure your elected officials and homeowner association boards to push for strong controls and licensing of door to door solicitors.

Let's try to remember that we live in a free country and that many have given the ultimate sacrifice (their lives) to protect our many God-blessed freedoms, including the right to go where we want to, when we want to, within reasonable boundaries.  For obvious reasons, you can't walk up to the White House asking for your petition to be signed.

If you do not want someone soliciting at your door, put up a little sign saying, no solicitors.  People who have manners will observe this and comply.  If someone comes to your door and you don't like the way they look, don't answer the door.  They will go away most times.  If they don't go away, call the police.  That's what they get paid to do: check out suspicious characters.

Let's be careful of what we ask for from our elected officials and not hastily cut our noses off to spite our faces.
