Marking Property Lines

Posted in: Von Elm E Neighborhood Watch

How does someone officially establish property lines for things such as putting up fences, shrubs, etc. in Yukon?  I had a survey done at time of buying, but the survey states it is not to be used to establish property lines, or used to mark the layout of a fence and things of that nature.  My neighbors are cutting 3 feet into my yard, i believe they think it's theirs, to the point of damaging existing shrubs.  Even though there is a privacy fence for the backyard that shows a division, from the front, they pass it by 3 feet, noone is that off.  The survey shows the fence is more on my property.  Normally wouldn't be such a big deal if their lawnmower wasn't set at the lowest setting, and they took care of their weed problems.  Their weed problem transfers to mine by wind and also lawnmower by way of side discharge.  I would like to have my yard professionally treated, but need to know where it begins and where it ends.

Where I came from, the city would come out and spray a line on your yard where the property line is.  I get a puzzled response or look when I ask about this in Yukon.  I have used a metal detector to find the rods that mark the corners of the property, and I believe they are there, short of digging to be sure.  My question is, how does one establish boundary lines in Yukon, or Canadian County?  I'd rather do things the right way, than take it upon myself to erect a fence or plant shrubs where I please and let everyone else find the way.

Hello Neighbor,

In the past I have called the City of Yukon and asked about my property line.  I back up to our creek and didn't know at what point my responsibility ended and the city begins.  A person from the city department came out and talked with me carrying a map of what is my property  lines.  I own to the concrete creek with the city having easement rights.

I would suggest calling the "City of Yukon" and telling them you want to know your property lines OR at our website click on "City of Yukon".  When you get to their page, click on "Community Development."  It will tell you to

When a property line is in question it is the property owners responsibility to hire a Licensed Land Surveyor to complete a pin survey.  If you have any other questions you can contact me at 405-354-6676.
