TUSD Receives Message from Sierra Estates

Dear Neighbors,

Last night, a meeting was held at the Rincon High School cafeteria. The purpose of the meeting was to get feedback from neighborhood residents regarding one of many proposals TUSD is considering to improve traffic safety for the children. The Principal and Vice-Principal of Rincon High School hosted the meeting. It was attended by two representatives of TUSD, Mike Guymon of Fred Ronstadt?’s office, and about 45 neighbors!

The specific proposal involved routing at least nine busses through the neighborhood to load/unload students at the South end of the parking lot on Eighth Street! The City of Tucson would construct bays for the busses. The busses would enter Mountain View from Broadway, turn right, and then left on Arcadia to Eighth Street, and then out to Swan via Burns.

Our neighbors were unified, adamant, strident, and often articulate in their objection to the plan. Many people spoke and many excellent points were made ?– too many to enumerate here. Suffice it to say; at the end of the meeting, the TUSD and City representatives announced that this specific plan would no longer be considered!
