Free Training Sessions

Nov 29, 1999

Mesa Community Action Network (MesaCAN) will host four "Development Principles" training sessions from November 1999 through June 2000.

The first of the four sessions, "Development Principles for Neighborhood Groups: Training in Effective Advocacy for Neighborhood Improvement," occurred Saturday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. at Kerr Elementary School (125 E. McLellan Road).

MesaCAN is the Community Action Agency for the City of Mesa. Its primary mission is to combat the root causes of poverty and to promote self-sufficiency of families and neighborhoods. Complementing the direct family-oriented services, MesaCAN's Neighborhood Outreach Program seeks out and promotes methods by which neighborhood groups can identify opportunities to implement social, economic and physical changes in their neighborhoods.

The first session, How to Access and Influence Institutions, focused on techniques for engaging large institutions to work on projects which would improve neighborhoods.

Contact Jim Malicki at 833-9200, ext. 253, or Saul Larsen at 833-9200, ext. 105, for more information about future sessions.
