Race to the Red Light

Posted in: Riverview Neighborhood Alliance
Again today it happened. Four ''mommy driven'' vans with children along ran the stop sign from Rosewood onto River (from the south) not signaling their turns (! well why should they, right?!) and the final van was nearly struck by oncoming traffic in both directions.

These moms have a lot to be proud of though!! Yep! They beat the traffic in back of them to *every RED light* on River Street. We pulled up behind them at Harrison, Indiana, Schuyler and Washington.

Now, wasn't it so very worthwhile to speed through that stop sign? !!

Yep, the stop sign that's located ONE BLOCK past a school, and still inside that school's 20 mph safety zone.

Moms aren't alone in their inconsiderate and dangerous ''races to the red light,'' however. Read the next post for a ''daddy story.''

2d Race, Same Day

This was on the other side of town coming home.

Along Brookmont Boulevard there is a right turn lane from Entrance/Center east to Washington.

Though he didn't have kids with him, the guy behind us decided that driving the speed limit just wasn't for him and 'gunned' the motor passing at an accelerated speed.

He nearly hit a car that turned in front of him - quite a close encounter.

We pulled up behind him at the next red light.

Surprise!!

And then, since we were all going the same way down Schuyler, we were behind him as he travelled a good 10 mph over the limit, tailgating vehicles and nearly smacking yet another one in the rear.

We were right behind him at the 4-way stop at Chestnut. Right behind him at the red light at Oak.

And as we passed him at Court Street, where he was (jubilously for us) stuck in the left turn lane, I bid him ''bye!''

All that speed and we were right behind him at every stop (driving at the limit, needless to say.)

I guess that old saying is right, ''the hurrier I go the behinder I get.''
