SUNTRUST ZONING ISSUE

SunTrust Seeks Variance with BZA

In July, the Radcliffeborough Neighborhood Association barely voted in favor of a variance to allow SunTrust Bank to operate on the corner of Vanderhorst and Rutledge. The Charleston BZA used the association's vote to help justify its decision to grant the variance and allow a commercial property on land that has been zoned residential for more than two decades.

Neighbors Appeal to City Council to Overturn BZA Decision

The BZA's decision is on appeal to the City Council and the Radcliffeborough Neighborhood Association is revoting on the variance this Thursday, 6 September 2007.

Some of the issues that concern neighbors include lighting, car traffic, and foot traffic. For example, the ATM at the Bank of America on Calhoun (half a block away) gets 300-400 visits a day.

Safety is also a concern as muggings have occured in the MUSC parking deck across Vanderhorst from the proposed location of the ATM/bank.

Cannot Attend This Meeting? Vote by Email!

If you are unable to attend Thursday's meeting, please email Dan Lesesne and let him know if you are "for" or "against" allowing the bank to operate on that corner. The votes are tallied by individuals, not households, so if more than one person lives in your house, please indicate who votes which way. That way all will be heard.

Please vote.
