Is it so important to have a drink at the Restaurant?

Dear Chris,

One recalls the tough days of the city of Pawtucket when downtown Pawtucket had 46 bars on Main Street, Dexter Street, and East Avenue in the late 1940's into early 1960's.  One of the most notorious cafes, Carey's, a den of inequity, on Division Street became infamous.   Pawtucket soldiers during World War II resorted into instant celebrities when Midwestern soldiers discovered they were from the Mill City. 

"Do you know where Carey's is?" naive soldiers asked the instant Pawtucket celebrity-soldier? 

Many sad veterans recall 1970 when Carey's finally saw demolition.

In closing, giving out a few liquor licenses cannot compete with the nasty reputation Pawtucket bars once possessed.

Dear Mary,

For new restaurants as Village Restaurant and Kafe Lila, a liquor license could empower business.

Mary, I do not drink, however, many people like some alcohol with African or exotic dishes that Village Restaurant and Lila's offers.

We do not need 48 more in downtown, but Cafe Lila might be ok but not sure the Village is the place for liquor with the type of food and closeness to the RIPTA area.

I think we should walk before we run for adding these addictive spirits to polute the future of Pawtucket.
