October 8, 2009 Meeting Minutes

Neighbor-to-Neighbor Report:

First of all, thank you to Mike and Kristen for hosting us.

We had a great meeting with 23 people showing support. Thanks for coming. We got a lot accomplished. Although the crime in the neighborhood has slowed down it’s still happening. So lets keep our eyes open for strangers in the neighborhood and if you live near one of the vacant houses be extra alert for activity and break-ins. Check out the website for posts about activity, post something yourself, or view past meeting minutes.

We have a couple projects going on in the near future in an effort to maintain or improve our property values. It was great to see everyone so motivated and concerned at the meeting. There were several ideas to raise money and organize, but we are looking for more. Another big Thank You to everyone who has taken on some leadership for the good of our neighborhood!

Neighborhood Clean Up:

Date set for Saturday November 21st
2 dumpsters will be delivered, one on 36^th & Bloomfield and one on 38^th & Bloomfield. They will be here the whole weekend. (Delivered Th/F)
A tool shed will be delivered to 38^th & Bloomfield between 6-8 am on the 21st. Kim will sign for it. See attached for contents.
Volunteers: We currently have 15 volunteers and possibly some Boy Scouts. Yeah!
Next Steps:
- Volunteers Team Up (Can we all meet next weekend, Sunday Night?) Kim will bring fliers.
- Spread the word (door to door) motivate others to get involved or ask if they could use some help
- Target vacant homes to clean up
- Have a BBQ Afterward – When/Where/How?

Paint The Wall:

We have 13 volunteers
We plan to get this done early 2010
We are now signed up as a Neighborhood Association (no fees to us) in order to qualify for whatever grant money may be available for neighborhood beautification.
The wall will cost about $2500 to paint, give or take a few hundred. Our neighbor Daran is donating the equipment and time to organize all the paint. (He has a painting company if anyone needs some painting done – 602-216-9164). Thank you Daran!
Ken had an amazing idea to raise money through a softball tournament. He is spearheading the details and will have information for us soon. Thank YOU Ken!

Block Captains:

Please welcome a few new Block Captains! This is a great start but could use a few more. Please see the attached map. If you would like to be a captain it involves, passing out fliers for the monthly meetings, the occasional phone tree, and maybe hosting a meeting now and then.
