Major Taylor Trail Opening

Posted in: Morgan Park Civic League
Community Support for Opening Ceremony for Major Taylor Trail was incredible.
A range of success stories were shared; one from a man who said he saw the poster and had not riden a bike in 10 years and a women who topped him by saying it had been over 20 years for her. A young boy from Racine Courts made the trek to the end and was delighted to find the River and Whistler Woods this close to home. Alderman Carrie Austin pledged support for the mural project at 111th Street and encouraged the residents to continue organizing for the refreshment/first aid/bike repair station alone the Trail. Special Thanks
to Ms. Ashley from Racine Courts Cooperative for supplying the refreshments and bicycle prizes for the raffle. Also to Rudy Polk and his crew
for being our Master Griller for the afternoon. Supt. Charles Lewis, 34th Ward Streets and Sanitation for the extra clean-up work on the Trail. Long's Nursery for the plant donation and Kelly for doing the planting. Dr. Wheeler, Hattie Collins and Mr. Brooks for providing your property for the ceremony. Let's keeping working to build and maintain the Trail!
