Respect-O-Meter: Respected Neighbor
Rodents in general...

I live near Colonial and Willow and I have been seeing rats in the area.

I keep my yard up and so do my neighbors,  they HAVE to be coming from Willow Park and Nonconnah creek over there.  Has anyone else seen any rats this year??

The paper has run a couple of articles about vermin problems in several nice areas of town.  Call them "Roof Rats" or whatever you want.....we dont need them !!

Armadillo's are showing up too,  one was run over on Estate a couple of weeks ago and I spotted one crossing White Station near Quince early the other morning.

BE WARNED:  I called and raised heck and the city sent someone to look and they set out poison,  but it was only for mice and rats , keep your pets away from any dead or dying vermin just in case...

I haven't seen any rats recently but did last winter.   I set out poison repeatedly without any success.  Finally used a live trap and caught him, a big one.   He won't be bothering anyone else.  Cool

I have recently had some rather large holes dug up in my yard, as well as some spots that appear to be "drilled" rather than the damage a squirrell or chipmunk might do.  I wondered if there might be armadillos in our area.  I live at Dee and Mt Moriah.

Yes, my neighbor saw one climbing in our attic, so we threw the poison packs up there and all is well. Outside, we have holes that have been dug and had a big mouse in the storeroom out back. A sticky trap got that one.

We have two dogs and this situation (and rat poison use) makes me nervous. We found 3 rats last summer - construction on Colonial by the church may have been a factor - and called Vector Control to come set a trap, which they did. But this was after I found my dog running around with a dead rat in his mouth - horrible!

We all know that all of this could be avoided if the city would do a better job of funding outdoor pest control instead of apparently doing nothing and hoping no one cares. We need to address this problem at the next CANA meeting.
