PACE Girls Get Involved in the Community

Jun 11, 2004

During the 2003-2004 school year, students of PACE Monroe were busy sharing their talents, gifts and uniqueness with the community.

The girls in the Upper Keys Center participated in Caring Friends for Seniors at the Plantation Key Convalescent Center, in which the students spend their time talking, playing games, and participating in arts and crafts with the senior citizens. In December, the students also wrapped presents for Ray?’s Kids which provides gifts to children that otherwise would not have gifts. In 2004, the students have enjoyed art perspective classes provided by the Purple Isle Art Guild.

The girls in the Lower Keys Center collected food to donate to the St. Mary?’s Soup Kitchen to feed the homeless and for needy families to be distributed through the Salvation Army. The girls also collected clothes to donate to Sam?’s Second Hand Store, where proceeds go to Samuel?’s House for homeless women. Five of the students helped design and paint a canvas mural for Just for Kids Week. In December, the girls made posters to decorate the Key West Convalescent Center, and made wreaths for the residents at Bayshore Manor. Finally, the students decorated t-shirts for the ?“Clothesline?” display for Sexual Abuse Awareness Month in April to be displayed at Peace in the Park.
