Nobel Neighbors

Message from the Executive Director by Dean Morris

Mar 10, 2001

Over the past few months, I have had the wonderful opportunity to meet and talk with several of you about positive changes here in the community. I truly believe that a healthy community grows only as the residents get involved to make positive change. This involvement comes in many forms, such as membership with the Church, School, Park District, Community Policing, Block Clubs or even membership with a Community Based Organization, such as Nobel Neighbors. We would love to have all community residents become members, but what is most important is that you become part of something that works to make positive change for the community.

Can you imagine for a moment, the potential our communities would have if members from organizations, educational, social, recreational and religious would come together and form relationships? Our Communities would be unlike anything we have ever known. Far too long, West Humboldt Park in Chicago, has been looked at by its residents and others as though there are no resources here. It may be the difference between lookin at a glass and asking the question, is the glass half empty? Or is the glass half-full? If you choose to focus on the glass as half-full, then there are resources to work with.

We here at Nobel have begun to conduct surveys that seek to identify those positive individuals that have strengths and abillities that when linked together with like-minded individuals will transform this community. If you are interested and I know that you are, I would like to invite you to a discussion on the interactive area called "talk about it" on this web site. Most importantly, get involved!
