Dear Lansdowne Residents:

We are writing to you to gather support for a most important issue facing our neighborhood in 2010.  That issue is crime!  Because of our location and quality of life, we have a neighborhood that could be vulnerable to bad people wanting to take things or do harm to our residents.  More importantly, we are vulnerable because we have no formalized or recognized effort to prevent crime.

Our houses and neighborhood are one of our most valuable assets that we must come together to protect.  The best way to do that is through a community effort.

This letter is to ask for your support for a Neighborhood Watch program that will help protect our residents,  homes and neighborhood from unsuspecting criminals who want to disrupt our lifestyles.  We have roughly 460 homes and the CMPD requires minimum participation of 25% or about 115 residents of Lansdowne in order to receive signage and support.  We need your help!

Please provide your support by writing us back via e-mail with a resounding “Yes” in the subject line (only one response per household please).  Also, we will need your physical address and valid e-mail address for future notifications.  If we have enough interest and if a signature is required, we will be back in touch with you.

By agreeing to support this important initiative you simply:

    •    Agree to provide your name and address for continuing communication regarding neighborhood crime issues, advice, and warnings.
    •    Agree to be more cognizant of your home/property and that of your close neighbors, reporting  concerns to your block captain or Charlotte Police.
    •    Join a group of active neighbors who will continually be monitoring our properties and roadways both while we are at home, at work, or away on a vacation/trip.

Please respond to lansdownecivicleague@yahoo.com with your interest in joining this effort.  Contact Bill Spiers at 704-442-5547 or Steve Shober at 704-877-6771 if you have any questions.

Block captains will also be needed in order to effectively communicate with interested residents in each zone and will assist our co-chairs Bill and Steve in facilitating the flow of information to residents.  If you are willing to serve, please let us know in your e-mail reply.

More information on the Neighborhood Watch program can be found on the CMPD website or in the attached pdf file: http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/CMPD/Community+Programs/Neighborhood+Watch/Home.htm

We can bring our neighborhood together and protect that which is most important to all of us.  We live in a fabulous area of Charlotte, and we are striving to make it better and safer for everyone.

Cordially,
Lansdowne Civic League Board
Steve Shober and Bill Spiers, Neighborhood Watch Co-Chairs
