Thirteen Mesa students to be recognized for outstanding artwork

Thirteen talented students will be recognized for their artwork that was
chosen from nearly 600 entries submitted by fourth-grade students from 28
Mesa elementary schools in the seventh annual Water -- Use It Wisely Art
and Calendar Contest. This year's winners represent nine Mesa schools.
Councilmember Whalen and award-winning children's author Conrad Storad will
be on hand to recognize the students' achievements. The City of Mesa
Utilities Department sponsors the yearly contest in partnership with the
Bureau of Reclamation and Mesa Public Schools.

The news media is invited to attend the ceremony, interview the students
and families, and take pictures if desired. This is a feel-good event with
great photo opportunities.

What: Water -- Use It Wisely Art and Calendar Contest Awards Celebration

When: 7 p.m., April 19

Where: Mesa Public Schools Curriculum Services Center, Governing Board
Room, 549 N Stapley Drive, Mesa (North of University Drive)

Fourth-grade students in Mesa were eligible to enter the competition, which
offers the students an opportunity to apply water conservation concepts
they are currently learning.

The winning artwork will be featured in a 207 water conservation calendar
that will be distributed in the fall at locations around Mesa, including
libraries, customer service offices and community-wide events.
