Mesa Housing Services helps community

The City of Mesa Housing Services helped many needy families this year by completing everything from small repair problems to major rehabilitation on Mesa homes through the Homeowner Rehab Program. "The program is great because it allows low income homeowners to maintain their homes in a livable condition, while lending stability in some of our older neighborhoods," said Housing Services Director Ruth Anne Norris.

-- 105 emergency projects were completed, including repairs and replacements of air conditioning and heating units, roof replacements, electrical and plumbing problems, etc.

-- Lead based paint hazards were eliminated for 22 households with small children

-- 14 households were given handicapped modifications

-- 35 major rehabs were completed to eliminate a variety of safety and health hazards, such as updating electric panels, rewiring and replumbing homes, installing insulated doors, dual pane windows and insulation for energy savings, and installing smoke alarms.

In addition, under the Rental Rehab Program, 17 rental units were refurbished helping 17 low-income families move into safe and sanitary, affordable housing.

If anyone would like more information on these programs, and to see if you qualify, call 480-644-3208 for more information.
