What is the Neighborhood Leadership Program?

The NLP is a network of grassroots community leaders from diverse racial, cultural and religious backgrounds. This network, with the support of NCCJ, will work to identify universal issues facing grassroots communities and will set an agenda for change that will best address those issues.

What is the purpose of the Neighborhood Leadership Program?

The purpose of the NLP is to empower people to take a stand for change by building a self sustaining network of grassroots community leaders that can effectively address the pressing issues facing communities today. The NLP seeks to build the bridge across racial, cultural and religious lines to better enable communities to work together in pursuit of change.


Why should I be involved in the NLP?

The NLP is a unique outlet for your voice to be heard. It is basically a forum that is directed by the participants. Being involved with the NLP will connect you with other community leaders and give you the opportunity to speak to the issues that are most pressing to your neighborhood.

Who is involved already?

The NLP has representatives from the Thomasboro, Lakewood, Hidden Valley, Reid Park, Wingate, Washington Heights, Steele Creek, Lincoln Heights and Southside neighborhoods.

How are you funded?

We are funded in part through the generosity of the Knight Foundation and the United Way.

What happens when the grant ends?

The object of the NLP is to build a self-sustaining network of grassroots community leaders. NCCJ will continue to provide support and resources after the grant period ends.

How can I help?
Not everyone can be a participant but everyone can help. To be a participant one must live in a grassroots community and be committed to the NLP goals.

If you don’t live in a NLP targeted community, you can still help by being a supporter or an ally. Supporters and allies spread the word about the NLP, help to recruit participants and support its goals.
