Roseview Lane

Posted in: Merry Oaks
Charlotte Dept. of Transportation, Planning Division, has completed a connectivity study which includes a path Roseview Lane/apartments into our neighborhood.
See http://www.charmeck.org/Departments/Transportation/Pedestrian+and+Bicycle+Connectivity+Projects.htm for details and click on the ''Merry Oaks'' button on the map there. You can provide input to CDOT from this same site or contact CDOT at 704-336-3928 if you wish to comment.

connectivity

I wrote and submitted a comment, and i suggest others do the same. It is definitely not a good idea for our neighborhood. Thanks for the heads up on this, Walker.
connectivity

i received this response after I sent an email discouraging this project. If everyone writes in we may get some results.

''Thank you for taking time to fill out the Connectivity Project comment form. At this time, there is no identified funding for any of the connectivity projects. Prior to any project moving forward, City staff would work with the affected neighborhood(s) to ensure that their concerns were addressed. If the concerns of a neighborhood were too great, staff would recommend that the project not move forward.

The projects identified are the just the first steps in this process. The list will continue to change as projects are funded and new ones are added. We are always looking for new suggestions. If you have a specific neighborhood connection that you would like added to the inventory, please send it to me.

I will add you to our mailing list so that you will receive any project updates. If you would like to discuss this further with me, please feel free to call me at the phone number below. Thanks again for your interest.''

Roseview Lane Connectivity

This is bound to be controversial. I have mixed feeling about it. Please keep an open mind and consider: The dead-end street, rickety fence and guardrail are eyesores. The fence is routinely damaged by people making holes to climb through, junk cars are left in the dead-end and there is an accumulation of litter and overgrown invasive weeds. At any time the City could re-open Roseview as a cut-through street. If we support and advocate for this pedestrian connectivity project as suggested, we can ask that the vehicular right-of-way be abandoned and the asphalt torn up and replaced with grass, trees, shrubs and a landscaped trail with decorative lighting, and lastly-- a gate that will be swung shut and locked except during daylight/school hours, and ongoing City maintenance . True, this does provide passage for The Park Apartment residents, a small percentage of which may intend to do us harm. But as always I encourage Merry Oaks neighbors to act out of hope and optimism, not fear and pessimism, for the long-term improvement of our neighborhood.
