It's Election Time: Merrill Pines Board of Directors

There are 3 seats available on the 2009 Merrill Pines Board, so the Presidential election is not the only ticket in town.

Some of you would like to serve on the Board, but you might have a few questions. Hopefully, you will find some of your answers here.

What does it mean to be on the board? You will make a commitment to serve the community interests to the best of your ability, be fair on matters that come before the board, do your best to preserve and enhance the values of the member property, and spend funds in a sensible manner.

Plan on attending all Board meetings and prepare in advance by studying the agenda and related material. There is only 1 meeting a month and 3?–4 are often cancelled for summer and holidays.

Who is going to teach me? You will have veteran Board Members and Dana Devine, the property manager, to guide you. They will be a wealth of information and all you have to do is ask. It?’s also a good idea to review the governing documents and the rules and regulations.

How do I apply? The application will be included in your Annual Membership packet. Be sure to fill it out and return it on time. The information on the application is used to:
1) Inquire whether a candidate has special training or expertise (accounting, engineering, project management) which may be useful to certain director positions.
2) Verify that the candidate is aware of the meeting schedule and able to attend all board meetings.
3) Verify that the candidate is a home owner.

If the number of applicants out-numbers the number of seats available, there will be an election. So, start picking out your campaign slogan.
