NO Trash Can in the Park!

Madison Central Park Trash Can

Dear Neighbors,
The work of The Association and the many volunteers, who have planted trees, built benches and tables, has made Madison Central Park a magnet for folks to come and walk their dogs, play and picnic.
We have seen a record number of people using the park and enjoying its great amenities and location but, it has come at a price; trash.
The trash can in the park was placed there by The Association and we had a plenty of volunteers to help keep it clean and empty. During the pandemic we have seen more people using the park but, few people volunteering to help keep it clean.
So as of Sunday August 16th, the trash can has been removed until we can get 20 volunteers to help empty the can twice a week. That means we would have enough people come only once every two months to help keep it empty.
We are continuing to seek help from CMS, Park and Rec and Solid Waste to come up with a better long term solution.
Please, continue to use and enjoy the park but, remember the policy is now CARRY IN/CARRY OUT.

Think about joining the Madison Park Neighborhood Association of Charlotte and help us keep Madison Park the great place it has always been.

Thanks
Tom Im
President

I hear you on that can Tom.    I emptied it for many months myself.    Then senior resident Ingrid Lachner emptied it.  It has been an issue for the 8 or 9 years it has been in the park.   It was put in by Park & Recreation.    CMS had told the HOA at the time NO we could not have it.    Jo Ann Means our VP at the time I was president had reached out to P&R to get the can.    P&R was supposed to of placed it near the sidewalk in the right of way.    CDOT had okayed the placement.    That said we were still going to have to empty it.    P&R ended up placing the can way futher up on the school property than they were directed.   We apologized to CMS and it was agreed as long as CMS / Pinewood didn't have to touch it we could leave it.    Every single month that can has been on site in the park it has been an issue.  I have dragged many heavy bags of dog poop / trash acoss the ground to the dumpster.   Ingrid use to bring up her car and dog and take it back to her trash can.

Eveyone wants to use the Park, but we could never get anyone to agree to empty that can.

A neighbor across the street on Seneca Place painted the can because he didn't liike the metal color.

Pinewood students use to use the park on a regular basis and they often left their own trash for us to clean up.

I guess it is like the Water situation.    Pinewood would never let us use their water to water the rose garden that they left from the old school.

Pinewood wants but they don't give back!
