Help Save 1.6 Million in Fees Each Year

Posted in: Madison Park

Remember to Recycle Right!

Don't put items not recyclable in your recycling bins.

NEVER BAG.  If you bag it becomes trash.  The staff does not have time to open the bags, and it absolutely becomes trash regardless of what is in the bag.

Trash in your recycling bin and improper items add 1.6 Million to the cost of recycling in Mecklenburg County every single year.    YES 1.6 Million.

All that garbage has to be pulled out and then hauled to the Speedway Landfill.

On top of that 1.6 Million that does not add in the cost of damage to equipment and injury to staff working in the Recycling Center.

Common Wrong items in your bins are no clam shells or wide mouth plastics in the recycling cart.   That means no yogurt cups, cottage cheese containers, butter tubs etc.   Only plastics with necks can be recycled in Meck County.

When in Doubt Throw It Out!

For the last several years every year the cost of recycling has gone up.   That means the fees on your tax bill have gone up.  This in part is our own fault.  Do your part and recycle right so these fees can be lowered in the future.

I am on the Waste Management Advisory Board for Mecklenburg County and represent the City of Charlotte On the Board.    So what I am telling you is Fact!

Recycling and Material Disposal

Mecklenburg County DOES NOT collect the curbside materials. The collection at your home is the responsibility of the municipality in which you live. For residents wishing to haul their own materials, Mecklenburg County has two-types of recycling and convenience centers:

To ensure a pleasant visit, please review the Acceptance Guidelines for Materials.

For commercial businesses, there are charges for construction debris, yard and tree waste, and bulky items (furniture)while the disposal of proper recyclables, bagged household trash, and cardboard is free.

When you visit our recycling centers, please note that each bin is clearly marked with acceptable items. Staff is available to assist you with questions at the full service drop-off centers.
