RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The interim police chief in Richmond, Virginia, has resigned after 11 days on the job, and a new chief has been named to fill his role.
After Interim Richmond Police Chief William Blackwell's announcement, Richmond Mayor Levar Stoney’s office said in a news release the mayor had appointed Deputy Chief Gerald Smith of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department as Richmond’s new police chief.
Stoney called Gerald Smith a “reform-minded leader” and announced he will assume the role on July 1.
