Should We Petition to Rename the Southern States

Posted in: Madison Park

I woke up wondering now that we are on this kick of removing anything and everything from statues, street name signs, school names, & banning confederate flags (by the way look up confederate battle flags a couple of links below), should we also go ahead and petition to change all the names of the Southern States?   How can anyone ever think of GA without thinking of plantations and cotton fields where slaves were forced to pick cotton for their masters.   Matter of fact that applies to all those Southern States.  Should we ban growing cotton?  Where does this all stop?   Should we just erase all history that offends someone?   Should we remove all the tomb stones of confederate soldiers and leave them as unmarked graves.  Should we burn down any remaining plantation style mansions, and close any museums or parks on the Civil War.  Or should we All Just Stop Regardless of Our Color and say What Are We Doing?   Have we all gone that nuts?    Owning slaves I think we can all agree was wrong.   Fact though it happened by both some whites, indians, and even some blacks.  Should God be blamed for not making everyone the same color?

I heard my old High School rival in TN was going to be renamed because John Overton owned Slaves.  Well I can tell you I am 60 years old and I never new that about the name of the school or frankly cared.  All we cared about was beating their football team.    As to the school in NC Mecklenburg named after former governor Vance that the CMS school board is thinking about renaming I didn't know # 1 he was even a governor, and I certainly did not know he had anything to do with the civil war.   My guess is most of you regardless of your color didn't know it either.

Should we just remove all statues and monuments of all kinds at one time so that we don't offend anyone now or ever in the future of this country

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never break me.

Confederate Flag History.   I did look up the flag history an there were countless different flags and versions that were intended to help the soldiers identify their regiments.    The flag that is now considered the confederate flag (The Bo & Luke Duke Flag from the 70s') was a battle flag out of Northern VA originally according to history.  That flag by far was not the only flag during the Civil War.
