Some of you might wonder why trucks no longer leave your plastic bags on the ground empty.

The reason as some might know is last year Meck County pushed using paper bags that were compostable.    Some of you used them.  Thnak You.

Most did not.   In past years YW had to be emptied at the curb in the truck or taken back to the compost yard and hand dumped by city temp workers.    Both methods were costly.

Meck County purchased a 200,000K trommel / debagger.   So now the crews are normal size and no unbagging is done curbside.   The City actually pays $'s per truck to have the county do the debagging.

The trommel is not totally perfect as it still catches some small plastic in the mulch.  Hopefully they can work that problem out at the yard.

The reason I know this is I am on the Waste Management Advisory Board for Mecklenburg County.   This will be my 6th year on the board.

Had folks used the paper or presonal containers that could be emptied instead of plastic perhaps the County could have avoided the expensive Trommel used for debagging.    If you don't know what a trommel is check out Gold Rush on Friday nights and you can see various ones in operation.

Also please don't dump anything at the self service recycling centers in our Parks other than what can go in the Green curb side can.   I went by the one on Park Road Park yesterday and someone had put a leather / maybe pleather love seat on top of one of the containers and there were rolls of carpet on the ground with other furniture items.  Construction debri needs to go to Foxhole Landfill.    If you are a residential Charlotte customer you could of had that Love Seat removed by Bulk.  There are various full service recycling center across Meck County.  Used those if you are not in a Charlotte home.  Various programs are available curb side in most Mecklenburg County towns.

Recycling is an expensive task at the moment.  Glass is worthless pretty much.   About the only thing that is still somewhat profitable is tin cans, and cardboard.  The bottom has fallen out of the market for most other recycling items.  Some counties and towns such as Union County and Lancaster SC have STOPPED their recycling programs.   Lancaster picked up their recycling cans in Dec. 2018.

Putting the wrong items in recycling is costing Mecklenburg County around 1 Million more each year.   You end up paying for this trash in fees come tax bill time.

I  think the rate to have stuff go away we don't wnat it pretty cheap.   It could be cheaper if people would Recycle Right!
