REPURPOSED: An Upcycled Fashion Show + AuctionCity of Charlotte Solid Waste Services is giving clothing and furniture a second chance Saturday, February 11, 2017, from 5-7 p.m. with REPURPOSED: An Upcycled Fashion Show + Auction. Twenty local designers will demonstrate how clothing and furniture can be saved from the landfill through upcycling, a waste reduction method that reuses items in such a way to create a product of higher quality than the original. Hosted by E! NewsStyle Contributor & Fashion Insider, Stacee Michelle, this innovative happening occurs during Charlotte’s fashion week to engage and inform a diverse audience in the awareness and importance of reusing, upcycling and composting. To further the impact, the environmentally-focused organizations - Sustain Charlotte, Pop Up Produce and Hip Hop Caucus - will benefit from the show and auction. The event is sponsored by the City of Charlotte’s Solid Waste Services, in partnership with Crownkeepers, Goodwill Industries of the Carolinas, Value Village and Extravaganza Depot as a part of their Healthy Communities program. Healthy Communities is an educational program that uses personal health as motivator for people to change their waste behaviors. Through the lifestyle-based educational program people learn how proper waste management (composting, reusing, recycling and upcycling) can decrease personal health impacts.
