Local high school students participate in career readiness training |
This fall, students in 17 Charlotte-Mecklenburg high schools will make a special commitment to improve their future employability.
The nearly 600 students taking part in the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program (MYEP) Career Readiness Training Certification are being equipped with job readiness, customer service and financial literacy skills. Students leave the program with a certification valid for one year that will allow them to stand out as future job candidates and take their place shaping Charlotte’s future.
The certification is the first of three main components of the MYEP. This spring, students across the county will have an opportunity to attend a Career Discovery Day event to expose them to in-demand careers. Following this, nearly 330 students will participate in an 8-week paid summer internship while countless others will find their own employment opportunities with local companies. This approach with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools, area businesses, and the community provides well-rounded exposure to the workforce.
If you and your business are interested in hosting a youth intern this summer we need to hear from you! Contact us at myep@charlottenc.gov or visit our website.
