CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police are trying to catch the person responsible for a series of burglaries in the Madison Park Community.

Homes on Emerywood, Longwood, Mapleridge, and Woodlawn got hit this week.

"I've lived here about a year-and-a-half; I heard when I moved in there were some break-ins, but nothing I've seen in a year-and-a-half," said resident Jay Johnson.

His neighbor from across the street is one of four victims. Now he's thinking about what he needs to do to protect himself.

"Well, I'm making sure my car is locked, and I'm taking everything out that someone might find valuable, trying to keep my lights on at night so if anything does happen I can see them from far away," he said.

Police say the thief or thieves gained entry the same way-- through a back window or door.

"Very concerned, this neighborhood has a lot of people walking around at night, so you have to protect yourself," said resident Sheryl Roth.

Police say the evidence they have gathered so far tells them one of the crimes was committed by someone driving a car, the others were on foot.

Investigators are trying to determine if one or more suspects was involved.
