Recycling Item Spotlight ... Glass

Did you know you may recycle glass in the Recycle it! curbside collection program? Acceptable glass items include glass jars, glass beverage containers and baby food containers. It doesn't matter the shape or the color of the glass, it can be recycled.

Glass is made from quartz sand, soda ash and limestone. It can be recycled over and over without losing its quality. When recycling glass, that glass item has the potential to be back into the retail fold in approximately 30 days (recycle center to shelf)!

The best tips for recycling glass is to rinse and remove all residue from the recyclable item. Before placing items in your recycling cart, make sure all lids are removed. For more information on the Recycle it! program, please visit http://recycleit.charlottenc.gov, download the Curb it! mobile app or call CharMeck 311 (704.336.7600).
