Dear Builder:
As home building continues to rebound in the Charlotte area, the City of Charlotte’s Code Enforcement staff has noticed a growing number of improperly placed real estate signs throughout the city. This letter is to serve as a reminder of the rules and regulations concerning off-premise sign placement (Section 13.106(13) of the City of Charlotte Zoning Ordinance and Section 10-212(a) of the City of Charlotte Health and Sanitation Ordinance).
- Signs may not be placed within 11 feet of the edge of the pavement of any road.
- Signs shall not exceed two in number per property being advertised and not be located more than one half a mile from the property being advertised.
- Signs shall not be placed before 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and must be removed by 6:00 p.m. on Sunday.
- Signs shall not be placed on trees, utility poles, traffic control signs, lights or devises, or within a sight distance triangle.
Continued violation of the provisions listed above will result in escalating monetary citations. Our goal is to both respond to citizen complaints and to promote healthy, vibrant neighborhoods and businesses. We look forward to working with you to enhance the quality of life for the current members of our community while making Charlotte an attractive and inviting place for our future residents.
Sincerely,
D. Mark Fowler
