Packages stolen from Front Stoop 4900 block of Murrayhill

Posted in: Madison Park

Packages were stolen today from a home in the 4900 block of Murrayhill Road.

There is not much you can do to prevent this type of crime.   You can track your packages ,and try to be around for delivery.  Require signature.

I had a package myself today that was not due to arrive for several more hours.  I found it fully visible on the front porch of my home.   No door bell, No knock.

I even requested Fed X e-mail me upon delivery.   Still waiting on that e-mail 10 hours later.

So even when you try to be as safe as possible it does not always work.

I find UPS normally always knocks or rings the bell.  They also take time to place packages out of the open.

Just be alert and aware that this type activity has happened in Madison Park.

If you are a victim report it to 911, or do an online crime report at charmeck.org for CMPD.

If we see a package on someone's front stoop, is it legal for us to move the package so that it's out of sight?  Or is that considered tampering with mail?

If it is a neighbor you know and they say it is ok, otherwise I would not attempt. You would not wish to have someone think you were actually taking their package by mistake, while you were simply attempting to help them.  It might be the one time CMPD is around the corner, and someone calls and they come quickly and find a package in your hands.

It is kind of hard to be a good neighbor for things like this in today's world.

I just heard on the local news WCNC just now that UPS now has some drop centers where packages are being taken for those that can't be home to pick up their package.  Some of these are unmanned where they place the package in a locker.
