The City of Charlotte will host a Transportation Update meeting for the Newell Area, where representatives from various City departments and the North Carolina Department of Transportation will be on hand to answer questions. A formal presentation will begin at 6 p.m.

There are several transportation projects identified in the Newell area, and the meeting will provide residents a better understanding of each project.

Parents and students are invited to attend the Students Working to Achieve Greatness (SWAG) back-to-school event on Saturday, August 2. There will be youth dental screenings, haircut promotions, and backpacks will be given to kids in grades K-12 while supplies last.

Kids must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Backpacks with school supplies will be given to students who complete the Passport to Academic Success tour, which is a comprehensive tour of family assistance programs that educates families about health and wellness, and academic programs.

Earlier this week, Mayor Clodfelter and City Council declared Tuesday, August 5, National Night Out. This nationwide initiative encourages communities to:
- Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness
- Generate support for crime prevention
- Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police community relations
- Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

On Wednesday, August 6, Neighborhood & Business Services (NBS) will host a tree banding grant information session and roundtable discussion.
- Learn how your neighborhood can apply for grant funding worth up to $3,000, courtesy of the Neighborhood Matching Grants program
- Hear from local tree banding vendors
- Learn more about cankerworms from the City of Charlotte's arborist
- Learn ways to bring your entire neighborhood together for a fun tree banding event
The information session will be held 6 p.m. Wednesday, August 6 at 600 East Trade Street. All neighborhoods in Charlotte are eligible to apply for a tree banding grant.
