I understand that we had a male that approached at home near Seneca Place and Glenham yesterday evening. This person rang the door bell / left the home to only come back to the side door. This residents were in their home and came out on his second visit and took his picture which he was not too happy about. He claims he was selling magazines.
Taking a picture is great for CMPD, but do it from inside the home for your safety.
This is the type of activity that should be called to 911 ASAP.
CMPD can then come out and get some info on this person(s). Finding out if they are legit or not.
Couple of examples of how this has worked in the past.
Last year we had someone that was doing something similar, and he would get nasty with you if you told him you were not interested. He did this with several residents including me. I told him I was going to call 911 on him if he was still on my block when I got back home. This happened to me as I was out on my block walking my dogs. He yelled at me and started cursing because he claims I did not come to my door. I sent an e-mail to CMPD about my incident. I then heard from other neighbors similar stories. A week or so later CMPD had him in the back of a police car, and called me requesting I come ID him. He was wanted in Colorado and was sent back. Some of our residents had given him checks according to CMPD.
The year prior I had someone knock on my door, and then go to my rear door at 7:00 am. They woke me up. My dogs ran him off, and I called 911. CMPD met up with him on the opposite side of Tyvola based on my discription. They spoke with him and let him go. They then followed him for a couple of days, and caught him crawling in a window of an apartment on West Tyvola. He was arrested based on the 911 call.
So two examples of how calling 911 helps. Also shows you why you should not be giving checks or info to strangers coming to your door.
If you don't buy from them they will stop coming to our neighborhood. If they are legit CMPD will not do anything. If they are not CMPD can take appropriate action.
