Today as some of you know we had another burglary on Gentry Place. Valerie Delby, our President and I were waiting to hear from CMPD, before doing a blast. We were waiting so we could provide as much detailed accurate info as possible to you. That just came in a few minutes ago.
Lt. Gwaltney wants to assure us they are doing everything they can. They asked that we stay alert, and don't hesitate to call 911. If we start chasing these thieves out of Madison Park by calling 911 they will move on. We have to do our part. If you see strange cars in driveways, or people on foot going behind houses that you know is not the home owner let CMPD know at once by calling 911. I would say to not use 311 for calls of this nature. Let your neighbors know if you are expecting workers etc. at your home, so they will not be concerned with seeing strange people at your place. Our neighborhood has changed a lot even in the last year. We have a younger median age, and many of you work during the day. In the past we had seniors at home, some of them 24/7 at many of our homes. It is more important than ever to watch out for each other.
Really don't do business with door to door. Don't even answer the door. Just make sure to let them know you are in the house. You can do this by turning on lights when someone knocks, or going to the window and motioning them away. Use your alarms when you leave the home. Keep the doors locked even when at home.
I am posting burglaries and other concerns on our web site discussion pages, including nearby crimes to Madison Park just about every day now. If you look under the CMPD heading on our pages on our web site you will find all kinds of great tips for prevention. I also just brought back up home safety tips on our discussion page. Good tips so check them out. Link below to our web site.
Lt. Gwaltney said there have been several arrest. Most recently in the Montclaire burglaries last week. They have made arrest from 3 different groups, and today is yet a 4th group. South Blvd has a high rate of crimes from Armed Robberies, Assaults. Pick Pocketing, Shoplifting, Auto Thefts, and Auto Break ins. So make sure when shopping along our communities retail zone, that you are aware of what is going on around you. Don't become a victim by not watching your purse, or locking your auto doors. Don't leave packages or valuable in your cars that are visible.
We must remain alert and do our part to assist CMPD. We have had numerous people join our distribution list the last 30 days. If you are not on the list, or you have new neighbors next door to you, please tell them to stay in the loop by joining our list. They just need to send us an e-mail to madisonparkhoa@hotmail.com subject: Add Me. We would love to have them as paid members, but we will be happy to add you for free to our list.
I often have residents tell me of things they have seen. You need to be telling 911 first, and not me, so they can check it out. You are not required to have an officer come to your home, or call you if you make a 911 call. They normally will ask you when you call in to 911, if you wish to speak with the officer when he comes out.
From Lt. Gwaltney: "Please encourage your neighbors to call 911 and be as detailed as possible. Please have your neighbors on the lookout for a dark colored 1999 Cadillac. It is believed that this vehicle was involved in the incident reported today on Gentry Place. It was being driven by a African American female and a male African American committed the burglary. He gained entry by kicking in the back door. A television was removed from the home. We are also looking for a possibly green Chevrolet S-10 pick-up truck operated by an older African American male that we believe may be involved in several appliance thefts."
Also The helicopter in the area just now was due to the following. The helicopter was up over your area just a short time ago. A stolen vehicle was picked up on the cameras at South Blvd. and Whitton and they were attempting to locate that vehicle.
We must work as a team to make our neighborhood safe again for all of us. CMPD will be at our meeting again this Monday. Meeting starts at 7:30 PM.
