NeighborWoods update!

In March, Madison Park pre-applied to the City for a NeighborWoods tree planting grant. We heard back from the City on Friday that we qualify for the smaller of the two programs, a Tree Store.

Now the actual work begins. We have to apply for the grant by July 7th -- just about 6 weeks away. AND IT REQUIRES A LOT OF NEIGHBORHOOD SUPPORT (note the emphasis). We need to appoint Tree Stewards and a PR person. I'll give a more detailed update in a couple of days, but here is an excerpt from the email the City sent us:

We are excited to announce that after accessing your neighborhoods planting capacity and tree availability, it has been determined that your neighborhood is eligible for a TreeStore. A TreeStore is like a book mobile; TreeCharlotte staff will pull into your neighborhood on a
schedule day and give out 50-100 free trees, along with planting instructions. Then your neighborhood is free to go and plant your trees!
So what’s next? It’s easy; just follow the steps below to success:

• Select your NeighborWoods Team and solicit neighborhood Participation (signup sheet attached)
• Complete the NeighborWoods Application by July 7, 2014, though we encourage you to complete the application as soon as you can!
• Attend a personalized NeighborWoods Workshop, where you will meet to discuss planting day activities and schedule your TreeStore!
• Have participants complete the online registration
• Host a successful NeigbhorWoods tree planting event in your neighborhood!
