At 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, join millions of people from around the globe in celebrating Earth Hour 2014 by turning off your lights for one hour. The City of Charlotte is partnering with Mecklenburg County, Duke Energy, Envision Charlotte, Center City Partners and Sustain Charlotte to encourage local businesses and residents to participate in this great event, and show our commitment to positive environmental action.

Nominations are being accepted for the 35th Annual Police Community Relations Awards sponsored by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Community Relations Committee (CRC).
An annual feature of Charlotte’s Law Enforcement Week celebration, the award recognizes officers and work teams from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department for building positive, problem-solving relationships with individual citizens and neighborhood groups.

This April, thousands of local high school students will attend Charlotte Career Discovery Day, a district-wide career exploration event hosted by the Mayor’s Youth Employment Program and Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
Scheduled to be held at The Park Expo on April 9, Career Discovery Day will provide youth the opportunity to interact with Mayor Patrick Cannon and local government officials, business executives and leading professionals in various industries.

Solid Waste Services is excited to announce that residents can now recycle restaurant pizza boxes as a part of the Recycle it! program. Previously, pizza boxes were not accepted due to contamination caused by grease and cheese residue. With changes to preparation and packaging methods, pizza boxes now have less food contamination than in the past.
